Goniatite & Orthoceras Sculpture
Goniatites belong to the extinct ammonoid group and are often abundant in rocks from the palaeozoic era. They usually had tightly coiled spiral shells and the internal chambers of the shell met the surface as curved patterns called suture lines. Orthoceras are appox. 400 million years old. Their distinctive bullet-like shell was once divided into gas-filled chambers, which kept the creature buoyant in the water. They are often found in clusters, washed together by the ancient sea currents.
