Silicon Carbide, also known as carborundum, is a beautifully coloured lattice that was first discovered in 1891 by 'Edward Goodrich Acheson'. Today it is widely used primarily for industrial purposes. It is commercially formed by heating carbon and sand at very high temperatures, producing extremely strong bands of crystals.
